Speculation

Speculation refers to the act of forming opinions or conjectures about a subject without firm evidence. It often involves making predictions or assumptions based on incomplete information, trends, or personal beliefs. In finance and investment contexts, speculation typically involves buying and selling assets—such as stocks, currencies, or real estate—primarily to profit from anticipated price movements rather than from the intrinsic value of the asset itself or from dividends. Speculators often accept a higher level of risk in the hope of achieving significant returns, as their decisions are based on expectations of future market behavior rather than on established fundamentals. Speculation can also occur in other fields, such as economics, science, or literature, where ideas or theories are explored without conclusive proof.
